Portitsa Gorge

The Portitsa Gorge, one of the most impressive natural landscapes of Western Macedonia, is located about 25 kilometers from the city of Grevena. A popular destination for hikers and nature enthusiasts, the gorge impresses with its geological significance and wild beauty. The village of Spileo, at an altitude of 960 meters, serves as the starting point for exploring the gorge, with a cobblestone path leading visitors into its stunning natural surroundings.

The Portitsa Gorge stretches over 800 meters, with sections where its width does not exceed 8 meters, and the cliffs rise up to 200 meters in height. Hikers can enjoy a remarkable passage during the summer months when the water level of the Venetikos River is low, allowing for a safe and enjoyable exploration.

One of the most distinctive features of the gorge is the historic bridge, built in 1743 to connect two nearby villages. The bridge, 34 meters long and 2.7 meters wide, has withstood the test of time, offering a unique atmosphere and natural beauty. The area remains pristine and untouched, making the gorge a unique destination for those seeking peaceful hikes in nature and unforgettable exploration experiences.
