Church of Agios Nikolaos of Monachus Efpraxia in Kastoria

The Church of Agios Nikolaos of Monachus Efpraxia, also known as Agios Nikolaos of Doiko, is one of the significant Byzantine churches in Kastoria, dating back to the 15th century. It is located on Voreiou Ipeirou Street, in the Dexameni area, and is one of the 13 ecclesiastical monuments in the city dedicated to Agios Nikolaos. According to an inscription preserved in the church, it was renovated and frescoed in 1486 at the expense of the nun Efpraxia, highlighting its importance as a center of religious and spiritual life of the time.

The architecture of the church follows the type of a single-nave vaulted church, typical of the post-Byzantine period. The interior is richly decorated with frescoes, depicting scenes from the life of Christ, the Virgin Mary, and various saints, which reveal the art and aesthetics of the 15th century. Of particular interest are the depictions of Saints George and Demetrius, which are notable for their expressiveness and attention to detail.
