Church of Agia Paraskevi in Triantafyllia

In Triantafyllia, Florina, stands the Church of Agia Paraskevi, a three-aisled, timber-roofed basilica built in 1855, blending the region’s traditional architecture with functional practicality. With exterior dimensions of 19.35 x 11.96 meters, the church impresses with its semi-hexagonal sanctuary apse and gabled roof, featuring distinctive cutouts at its eastern and western edges. A recent renovation restored the windows on the northern side to their original form, which had been preserved until 1960.

Inside, the flat ceiling layers of the aisles create a sense of spaciousness, with the central nave featuring an elevated ceiling that curves at the edges in a bagdato construction. The painted and colorfully decorated iconostasis, along with the episcopal throne, add vibrancy and a spiritual ambiance to the space. A newer, tower-like bell tower, added later, enhances the church’s imposing presence within the settlement.

The Church of Agia Paraskevi is not only a place of worship but also a cultural landmark of Triantafyllia, preserving the region’s historical and religious tradition. The harmonious coexistence of architectural elements with its modern function makes it one of the most distinctive churches in Florina.
